December 2021 Newsletter

2021 is almost over! Join us for some exciting events as we close out this year.

Youth (Ages 0-18): Fall Reading for all ages wraps up December 4! Be sure to log your hours to be entered in the grand prize raffle. This month's Take Home Kits include Snowman Snack Cups (December 13-18), Candy Cane Taste Test Challenge (December 7-11), and Hot Chocolate Taste Test Challenge (December 7-11). In-person programs include Teen Winter Happy Little Painting (December 1), Tween Graphic Novel Book Club (December 14), and Mikey and Jo Kid Shows (ages 1-5; December 15).

Adults: Bookopoly, our all-ages winter reading program, starts December 1! Read your way around the board, collecting properties for each book, and enter to win a grand prize. Eclectique Productions will perform at our Songs of the Season concert on December 9, CrAfterWork will create string art on December 16, and our Saturday Movie Matinee will show Land, starring Robin Wright and Demián Bichir, on December 18. The Friends of the Library Basket Raffle is back - just $1 per ticket! Stop by the front desk to purchase yours before the drawing on December 14.

Songs of the Season

Eclectique Productions presents a holiday concert, Songs of the Season, on Thursday, December 9 at 6:30 pm at the Safety Harbor Public Library. The trio of two flutes and a keyboard/harpsichord will perform holiday and classical music from Bach to Bossa Novas, pop tunes, and original compositions, using different instruments in the flute family, with the pianist switching instruments to a viola da gamba to provide a unique listening experience. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Safety Harbor Library.

Friends of the Library Basket Raffle

This annual highlight returns, with more than 20 baskets for you to choose from. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at the circulation desk. The drawing will be held on December 14.

Bookopoly Winter Reading Challenge

A fun reading challenge based on the beloved game of Monopoly, available from December 1 to January 31 and open to all ages. Pick up (or print out) a game board to read your way around the Bookopoly board, collecting properties as you go! Download the Beanstack app or visit safetyharborlibrary.beanstack.com.

Career Online High School

Safety Harbor Public Library participates in the Career Online High School (COHS) program which offers adults (19 and older) the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate online. The library’s program offers a limited number of scholarships to qualified adult learners who are looking to advance their careers, prepare for workforce entry, and continue their education.
Eligibility Criteria:

Age 19 or older
Pinellas County Resident
PPLC library cardholder in good standing or willing to apply for a library card
At least one year of high school already completed
