Trash, Recycling & Yard Waste ProceduresOn Monday, September 30, 2024, Public Works – Sanitation Division will resume normal garbage and recycling collection schedules following all standard City guidelines (shown on the infographic). During garbage collection, crews will pick-up City-issued cans and bagged/containerized vegetative debris (up to 10 bags/containers) only. These cans and bags should be separate from other storm related debris.
The City is currently reviewing options for storm debris removal (large vegetative debris, household goods, demolition debris, and appliances) due to the volume and type of debris produced from extensive flooding and damage experienced in areas adjacent to Old Tampa Bay. Please follow the following steps in preparation for storm debris removal: - Small twigs, leaves, grass clippings, pine needles, and shrubbery should be containerized for disposal on your garbage day. Debris removal equipment cannot pick-up small, loose vegetative debris.
- When preparing hurricane related debris, please keep debris piles separate. Large, loose vegetative debris (logs and large branches) should be separate from household debris and separate from construction/demolition debris. These items cannot be mixed for disposal.
- Storm related debris should be placed neatly in the public right-of-way.
- Do not place debris around other objects such as utility poles, mailboxes, water meters, transformers, fire hydrants, near vehicles, or on storm drains. Covering or placing items near other objects poses a hazard to debris removal personnel.
- Do not place debris directly in the street or within a curb. Please keep sidewalks clear and passable.
- As per City Code, contractors hired by a property owner for tree trimming and removal, fence repair/replacement, or other construction are responsible for hauling away materials. This material cannot be placed at the curb for storm debris removal.
Additional information will be provided regarding pick-up of storm debris.
