Policy on Unattended or Disruptive Children
The library welcomes all children to use their facilities and services. However, responsibility for children using the library rests with the parent/guardian or assigned chaperone, not with library personnel.
Ages 10 or Under
Children ages 10 or under should not be left unattended in the library; they must be accompanied by an adult or a responsible caregiver. Responsible parties must remain in the library while children attend story time or other programs.
Children Older Than 10
Children older than 10 may use the library unattended subject to other policies and procedures adopted by the library concerning behavior, conduct and demeanor. Disruptive children will not be allowed to interfere with library service to other patrons.
Consequences for Unacceptable Behavior
Individuals who with unacceptable behavior will be asked to leave the library.
- First, a verbal warning will be issued and the patron will be asked to correct the behavior in question.
- If a 2nd warning is given, the person(s) will be asked to leave the library.
- A 3rd warning for minors will result in a parent/guardian conference with library management for re-admittance.
Disruptive Behavior
Disruptive behavior is any behavior within the library which infringes on the rights of others using the library. The library cannot assume responsibility for persons or property outside the building.
