Rules for the 2018 Contest
The City of Safety Harbor would like to invite children between the ages 3 - 11 years old who live in Safety Harbor or attend Safety Harbor Elementary School or Espritu Santo Catholic School to showcase your artistic talent and your commitment to the environment by participating in the 1st Safety Harbor Recycles Poster Contest sponsored by the City of Safety Harbor. This contest helps show our commitment to waste reduction, recycling and buying recycled products.
The City of Safety Harbor winners will receive the honor of having their artwork displayed in various City buildings, on City equipment and on social media.
Below are the rules for the poster contest. Please read the poster contest rules carefully, as only posters that meet the contest rules will be considered. Posters must be submitted to us no later than June 30, 2018.

All children between the ages 3 - 11 years old who live in Safety Harbor or attend Safety Harbor Elementary School, Espritu Santo Catholic School, or Safety Harbor Montessori Academy.
- Safety Harbor Recycles! Poster Contest will have the following themes:
- Safety Harbor Recycles
- Put Recycling in its Place
- Recycling in the Park
- Save our Earth
Posters created by students must be their own original artwork. Copyrighted characters (such as Superman) or copyrighted clip art will not be accepted. Posters must be a minimum of 8 1/2" x 11" and a maximum of 18" x 24". Each poster must have the Release Form (PDF) securely fastened to the back of the poster. Any poster not accompanied by a completed Release Form will not be eligible for judging.
Students may use a variety of media such as watercolor, pen and ink, crayon, chalk, markers, etc. Brighter colors, however, reproduce better for display. Keep in mind most posters will likely be on public display and should be easy to see or read.
The posters will be grouped in one of the following grade categories:
- 3 - 5 years old (preschool - kindergarten)
- 6 - 8 years old (1st - 3rd grade)
- 9-11 years old (4th and 5th grade).
The three (3) best posters in each age group will be judged based on the judging criteria listed below.
1. Clear message conveyed by the text and artwork
2. One of the poster themes listed above is clearly addressed
3. Creativity, originality and artistic quality
4. Visual clarity - easy to read
5. Bright and colorful
6. The Release Form is attached to the back of the poster
7. No copyrighted artwork, characters or name brands (i.e. Coke, Pepsi) are used in the poster
Each participant should receive a Certificate of Recognition to acknowledge the effort.
The top three (3) winners in each age group will receive a $25 gift certificate for art supplies in addition to having the honor of having their artwork replicated and used for program promotions in City buildings and equipment.
Please remember: all entries must meet the poster requirements specified above, and must have the Release Form securely fastened to the back of the poster. All artwork submitted becomes the property of the City of Safety Harbor, and may be reproduced.

City conducts judging

City will notify winners and give further instruction as to student recognition.
