Reading Programs

Safety Harbor Public Library Summer Reading 2020
Summer reading is a fun program designed to engage all age groups in exploring new ideas, books, and activities. This summer we are pleased to offer the Beanstack program for all our reading programs. Beanstack is a free online service that offers an innovative new way to connect children and their families with books and educational reading activities that match each person’s interests, age, and reading level.  It also includes book and activity logging, badges, and registration for all members of the family under one account.  Beginning June 15, 2020, you can start recording your reading time and participate in the activities, located exclusively in Beanstack. Simply register one time to participate in library sponsored reading programs and activities all year round!

How Do I Start?
To get the most out of your summer reading experience, we recommend that you create a Beanstack account starting June 15.  Parents can also create accounts for their children.  In Beanstack, you can view the available activities, enter the books you have read, write book reviews and more.  You will receive prizes as you progress and be entered into drawings at the end of the summer.

To register, visit the Beanstack website or login through the app.

Beanstack app available for iOS and Android.

Reading with the Rays
With baseball season and summer in full swing, the Tampa Bay Times Newspaper in Education department has again partnered with the Tampa Bay Rays, Suncoast Credit Union and the libraries in Charlotte, Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties for a fun and exciting summer.

The rules of the game are simple. Pick up your favorite books, explore your local library’s website, or browse your favorite section of the Tampa Bay Times. As you read, track your hours by rounding the bases. When you read enough hours to get on first, second and third base, ask your parent or guardian to initial your card. You can hit a reading home run when you read for 24 hours. Once you read a total of 24 hours email your completed game card to reading@raysbaseball.com. This year when you read for 24 hours you will receive two (2) tickets to a Rays home game, a special Reading with the Rays prize, AND a free item from a Rays concession stand!

Learn more about the program and download your Reading with the Rays virtual game card at the Tampa Bay Rays' Community page
