Call for Nominations - City of Safety Harbor Poet Laureate
Nominations Accepted March 1 - March 31
We are seeking candidates to be the City of Safety Harbor’s first poet laureate. The role of the Safety Harbor Poet Laureate is to promote poetry throughout the community and to inspire an emerging generation of literacy artists. The selected candidate will be appointed as the poet laureate for a two year term by the City Commission.
•Resident of Safety Harbor, FL
•Be a poet of stature recognized in the literary, cultural, or educational communities
•Have high quality published or documented work
•Be willing to make presentations throughout the Safety Harbor community
•Pursue projects related to poetry and literary arts
•Willing to encourage, advocate, and spread the joy of poetry in the community
Individuals may nominate an individual of their choice or may self-nominate, using the online submission form. Nominations will be reviewed by the Safety Harbor Public Library and appointed by the City Commission during the presentation portion of the meeting on Monday, April 3 at 7:30 pm.
2nd Annual Flamingo Fundraiser
March 9 - April 13
Enter to win your favorite flamingo! Tickets are $1 each or $5 for six. Flamingos will be on display in the library rotunda (youth flamingos will be in the children's wing) until April 13. Winners will be notified on April 17, and do not need to be present to win. All proceeds generated benefit the Safety Harbor Library Foundation's . n
Six Word Memoir Contest
April 1 - April 21
We are celebrating 100 years of Safety Harbor with a Six Words Writing Contest! In conjunction with the City’s centennial, the theme for the contest is: What brought you to Safety Harbor? Explain how you came to live in the ‘The Jewel of Tampa Bay’ in six descriptive words. For example: Cold blooded. Needed warmth. Found quaint. The contest is open from April 1 to April 22. Contest is open to all ages, with a limit of two entries per person. Local restaurant gift cards, sponsored by the Friends of the Safety Harbor Library, will be awarded to the top three entries. (1st place - $75, 2nd place - $50, 3rd place - $25.) Winners will be announced during the Library's 8th Annual Poetry Celebration on April 27 at 6:00 pm.

Old Fashioned Tupperware Party

Poets’ Mingle starts at 6:00pm and Open Mic starts at 6:30pm. Featured guests include writer Sheree L. Greer, the music of guitar duo, P.S., and Master of Ceremonies, Bill Boden. The winner of the Six Word Memoir Contest will be announced. In addition, Safety Harbor's first Poet Laureate will be announced and introduced. AARP Driver Safety Course

Gain the skills and tools you need to drive safely on today's roads. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. The fee is payable by check only (made out to AARP Safe Driver) and due at the start of the class onsite. All age drivers are welcome.
